We developed this product to use alongside our Daily CAFE literacy framework. The booklet is intended to be given to each student at the start of each school term and available for them to access and reflect on their progress.
The reading and writing checklists start with an 'I can' component, where the students colour in the skills they have attained already. Then, through conferencing with the teacher, students choose 2 goals to work towards for the whole term. The reading and writing observation charts are used to track progress towards these goals with anecdotal notes. Related work samples can be attached accordingly.
In order to track the progress of the whole class, we have designed a rubric where student names are listed against the reading and writing skills set out in the checklists. This way, students' 'I can' skills and goals can be coded in different colours (eg. skills achieved in green and goals in red).
