Daily 5 is a great opportunity to practice the five main components of literacy instruction. When students are fully engaged in their independent activities teachers can work with small groups. This choice board will help students understand their expectations during Daily 5. The concepts will change throughout the year, but the categories and activities will not so students will be able to successfully work on activities independently. Teachers will not waste time each week explaining new choices.
Each box has a line for teacher or student signatures to keep track of which activities have been completed. On activities where students work with multiple partners, there are additional lines so they can sign each others choice boards after the activity is completed.
In my classroom, students must complete the top six boxes before working on the bottom six boxes. Setting it up this way ensures that all students practice each category once before completing any a second time. Students still have choice and are excited to learn, but as a teacher I know they will complete a wide variety of activities each week.
Students will love the choices that are provided in this choice board. They will be excited to practice all components of literacy. However, this choice board is very specific to my classroom and my needs. If you are looking for a customized choice board in this format, please contact me. I would be happy to discuss options with you.
