I always do 3-4 rounds of Daily 5 each and every day and I find that sometimes transitions get my class rowdy! I decided to create these slips so that students could come up and grab 2 or 3 choices instead of verbally telling me each round. I print and laminate at least 10 of each choice (depending on the task).
I have students come up at the beginning of our Daily 5 time and they pick 2-3 of the slips. They can then decide which one they want to do first, second, third. I will sometimes get up from my group so I can check on the rest of the class and as I walk around the room I can quickly see what choice they are on and double check they are remaining engaged in their choice.
When I am finished meeting with a group, I can simply ring my bell and my students know to move to their next choice and move it on their desk so I can easily see what new task they are working on.
It allows me the convenience of knowing they are doing a variety of activities as well as without spending a lot of time transitioning and trying to get my class back on track each round!
