Use these fun decodable word pages to practice fluency and word attack skills in guided reading, whole group, or a center . Features easy to read CVC, CVCC, and CCVC words that are easy to decode and teaches kids in a game like format.
This product was designed to focus on 27 of the 70 phonograms to sharpen segmenting and blending skills in beginning readers. Students can work independently or in partners to touch each star underneath the letter or phonogram. As they touch each star they say each sound. When they get to the end of the word they use their finger to slide down the arrow and blend the sounds back to together to say the new word. There are 24 words on each page. Some pages address the same sounding phonogram, (ir and er) (oy and oi) (ur, ear, and wor) and sometimes words are repeated within the 24 squares on each page. For example, you may see the word "wish" repeated twice on the -sh phonogram page.
I have not put blends together as one sound, unless they are recognized as a phonogram. For example, the word "screw" would be segmented as s-c-r-ew, with s, c, and r being separate sounds and the phonogram ew as one sound. Once this is taught as whole group or as part of guided reading, my kids were ready to have this as part of their Daily 5 word work center.
phonograms addressed: sh, ee, th, ow, ou, oo, ch, ar, ay, ai, oy, oi, er, ir, ur, ear, wor, ng, ea, aw, au, or, ck, wh, ed, ew, oa
Another component I included was the ability to track student progress. There is a generic recording sheet that can be laminated or placed in a sheet protector. If working in partners, one student places a check mark in the corresponding box if their partner segmented and blended the word correctly. Students count up how many out of the 24 words they have at the end and can fill in their graph to chart their progress. 2 separate graphs are included, one with phonograms listed at the bottom and one without, depending on how you would like to use in your classroom. A time space is also included if you are adding in that element. I have found that once I make this more into a "game" scenario for my kids, they love it even more!
I hope you enjoy and I'm always available to answer any questions you may have before you purchase the product!
