Are you trying to infuse literacy instruction into your Social Studies classroom? If so, look no further. After searching for hours for Daily 5 activities that were appropriate for upper elementary and middle school students, I decided to create my own. I started with "Work on Writing" in order to build my students' writing stamina for Common Core. This resource has been a favorite of my students and I hope your students will enjoy it too. With your download you will receive:
1. A Cover Page to use for your Daily 5 Work on Writing Folder
2. Student Direction Page
3. Grading Rubric
4. Planning Organizer for Writing
The Family Vacation activity asks students to imagine the birthday party of a real or imagined person during the time period that we are studying. Students are given step by step directions as well as a graphic organizer and rubric to support their planning. This assignment can be adapted to fit any Social Studies theme from Colonial America to the Great Depression, and will help students deepen their understanding of the content by immersing themselves in the time period of study.
Check back often for updates as I intend to add more of my Social Studies activities for each category of the Daily 5. As always, thanks for dropping by my store, be sure to review, rate, and follow!
