Make the most of your calendar routine!
Stop reciting, “Today is…, Yesterday was…, Tomorrow will be…” and singing songs about the days of the week and months of the year. Some students struggle with these concepts no matter how many times we repeat them, while others get it on day one (but must sit through the routine for 179 additional days). Plus, these concepts are not developmentally appropriate until students are between the ages of 7-10.
Instead, make the most of your calendar time by using routines that foster number sense, develop fact fluency and place value, and build an understanding of the passage of time.
This packet includes days of the week wheels, months of the year wheels, number of the day work mats, data collection charts, activities to build place value, and number cards.
