This is a timer that can be projected onto the board or played on a computer screen.
I’ve received feedback from teachers that this has helped to improve classroom management during Daily 5 type activities.
This version is left open so that you are able to edit to your needs. I recommend only purchasing if you are familiar with power point transitions and animations. If this is not something you have done before, it may be tricky to figure out. I have included directions on how to make edits in PowerPoint 2010.
Using this in my classroom has reduced the amount of managing I have to do during centers to ZERO. Students know what is expected of them and this timer provides cues as to how much time they have left, when they should switch centers, and when they should be working. I get to sit back, relax and enjoy TEACHING rather than managing.

Here is a quick run through.
The timer switches between 3 colors: Green (7min), Yellow (2min), then Red (1min). Students know they have plenty of time to work during green. Yellow means they check directions, and make sure they are on track for finishing. Red means hurry up and be sure to finish. With this version, you are able to customize the length of each screen to fit your needs. Read through the whole document for directions on how to do so.
After all three colors have passed, a purple screen will pop up and play music. This indicates it is time for students to switch centers. The purple stars slowly disappear. An upbeat song plays. This gives kids something to listen to and reduces chit chat along the way to a new center. Students should be completely settled and working by the time all of the stars have disappeared. This transition time gives the teacher a chance to prepare for the next group of students coming to the center.
This product is amazing because students quickly learn what is expected of them and the teacher no longer needs to:
• give directions in between centers
• remember to set a timer (this was my biggest issue)
• tell students how much time is left
• remind students to start cleaning up
