Students learn best when they know what they are supposed to be learning (objectives,) how they are supposed to learn it (method,) and why they are learning the material (meaning.) Research supports this approach and the importance of establishing these ideas in the beginning of every lesson or unit. Students should know what these are and will demonstrate higher levels of success when these 3 important elements are shared with them in the beginning of the lesson.
This simple document can be used as a lesson starter, on an overhead, on the board, or blown up and laminated to post in your classroom on a poster-sized board. I have made it free because I believe in the importance of all students and teachers having this simple but powerful resource available to them.
