>>NEW! Try alternating these Core Drills with my WriteRight!. This provides a nice balance that includes more "writing" (common core focus). My kids seem to enjoy the variety!<<

This next set of Core Drills (Months FIVE through EIGHT) includes grade 6 academic vocabulary as described in the common core standards tiered format. Keeping the same common core fundamental drill format, these packets will continue to provide the basic content practice that otherwise might be neglected due to our refocus on higher thinking skills, making personal connections, making specific reference to text information, and opinion writing.

Created around the skills progression list in language (www.corestandards.org), these drills are meant to keep information fresh in our students' minds. Skill reviews include concepts like nouns, verbs, noun-verb agreement, writing process, grammar corrections, punctuation, poetry, and figurative language. Therefore, these worksheets are perfect to be used as Bell Ringers, formative assessments/temperature checks, and homework.

I use these reviews in my own classroom to help my students be as ready as possible for our standardized state tests. :) {TIP: You can also use the grade 6 Core Drills for prepping grade 5 students for the sixth grade and for grade 7 students to review these progressive skills.}

Here you will get 15 pages of drills along with the answer keys loaded onto four pages. Plus this packet gives you a poster entitled "CCR LEXILE Levels at-a-Glance" to hang in your classroom as reference. This reference is very helpful in that it lists the updated lexile levels by grades, aligned to the College Career Readiness reading levels. I've also included literature book titles in each level with their lexiles and a readers' rating to go with it. Finally, I've color-coded the poster for easy visual reference.

Print the ANSWER KEYS in color so you can see the "red highlighted" notes. Use these worksheets for homework as well.

Easy to implement. Easy to monitor. Easy to correct.
