Daily Decimal | Usage & Idea Guide

  • Use this worksheet in multiple ways to show the multiple ways we use decimals!
  • Do it as a daily activity, bellwork, extra credit, or create a workbook with multiple copies of this sheet!
  • This sheet pairs well with my Daily Fraction sheet. You can purchase that here: Daily Fraction.
  • It could also be used in small groups or at a math station/center.
  • This sheet is easily accommodated for students by eliminating/re-adding boxes as appropriate to meet student needs.
  • Extend this activity by having a student complete multiple sheets or by leading a station with this as the activity.
  • Any of these boxes can be enriched by requiring students to answer, “Why?” or “Where did you find that information?” or “Can you demonstrate that in a different way?”
  • Complete portions of the chart for students who may need this support.
  • Ask learners to indicate page numbers and/or materials where specific information can be found to complete this chart.
  • Use as part of your assessment cycle of pretesting, checking for understanding, and/or posttesting.
  • Consider enlarging at a local printing company or education agency to use as an anchor chart or large group teaching tool.
  • Enlarge on an Elmo, overhead projector, or interactive whiteboard for whole group instruction.
  • Use as part of any learning centers.
  • Use as part of carousel brainstorming.
  • Assign specific students or specific groups particular boxes or rows and then share those with other students or groups. Then, come back as a whole group to present and share information.
  • Cut the chart on the lines and use as a mixing and matching game. Use this as a center. This works especially well if the sheet is printed on cardstock, cut apart, and laminated. Photographs can be made of these for record keeping and sharing purposes. This can also be sent home as a review, communication, and sharing tool.
  • Print on cardstock and laminate. This allows the document to be used repeatedly by writing on it with dry erase or wet erase markers. Photographs or photocopies can be made of these for record keeping and sharing purposes.
  • Use as part of interactive notebooks. Print size may need to be adjusted depending on the size of notebooks being used.
  • Allow students to answer each box in a different color of ink or pencil to increase engagement, interest, and potential retention of material.
