Are you in need of a way to organize your kiddo’s choices during Daily 5? Here is a great resource for allowing students to have ownership of their choices, while also being organized, neat, and tidy.
I’ve included 3 versions of the Rotation Sign-Up Charts:
The first has Rotation 1 as a choice only between Work With Teacher and Read to Self (which is the way I organize Rotation 1 in my class). All other Rotations have choices of Work With Teacher, Read to Self, Word Work, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading, and Read to Someone.
The second version is similar to the first, except the Rotation 1 chart has all 6 choices.
The third version takes out the Work With Teacher choice, for those of you who strictly do the 5 Dailies.
Print what works best for you, your kiddos, and your schedule.
I only have time to do 3 rotations a day in my class, so I only have charts posted for Rotations 1-3. I included charts for 5 daily rotations, in case some of you do have time to get all 5 rotations in every day!
To allow students to sign up, print and attach the 2 sides of the charts together, laminate and post in your classroom. Attach Velcro dots to the circles on the rotation charts. Then print the “sign up dots”, write your student’s names on them (one color dot per rotation), cut out (or punch out– a 1/2 inch craft punch works perfectly), laminate and attach Velcro circles to the backs. I hang ribbons with Velcro attached next to the charts for the dots to “live” when not in use and so students can find their dots in a snap when it’s time to sign up for Daily 5 Rotations.
