This is my daily math journal that I use for morning work when the students come in. There are 2 days on a page, and enough days for 180 days of school.
The skills start out easy and progressively get harder. The packet begins with the students answering 1-3 questions, then it builds and the students eventually will be recording 11 items in their math journals daily.
Skills covered in the math journal are:
*Name practice- students practice writing their first and last name every day
*Calendar skills- date, month, number date, day of the week, year, and days in school
*Tally marks- I have my students put tally marks for the number day of the month
*Money skills- from penny to a dollar, also shows head and tails of coins, shows several examples of the tail side of the state quarters.
*Time- an analog clock is displayed- students must give the time
*Daily Oral Language- students must correct a sentence.
*Shapes- 2D and 3D shapes given for students to name- this is incorporated toward the end of the package.
Using this in a notebook has made my mornings easy, I simply flip to the next page and project it on the board with my Elmo.
