In my first grade classroom I used Scott Foresman Reading Street for the six years. I used only Saxon Phonics during the 2012-2013 school year during my phonics time and found the lessons to be boring and the coding unnecessary. I returned to Reading Street’s phonics component and while I did not miss Saxon Phonics as a whole, I did miss the daily practice sheets (NOT the coding parts!) where sounds are reviewed daily. I decided to create my own daily practice sheets so that I would be able to provide consistent and predictable practice for my students while reviewing those important first grade phonics skills.

These daily phonics review sheets are designed so that students sit at their table/desk and independently respond to the teacher’s directions. I have created two levels for differentiated instruction – one for your at grade level students and one for your below grade level students. Both pages contain the same questions so all of your students can follow along and complete the review together.

While I designed these to correlate with the sequence of Reading Street’s phonics component, teachers who use other another reading series may find these useful as well.

**For users of newer versions of reading street – this packet does not make any mention of stories in unit 1 on the student worksheets. These review sheets follow the exact same phonics skill sequence as newer versions of Reading Street, including the Common Core edition.

Included are four pages for four out of five days of the week. (In my classroom, Fridays are assessment days so I will not do a review sheet that day.) An at grade level and below grade level page is included for each day as well as the answer key for teacher use. There is not a great deal of difference between the at grade level and below level versions. The below level version has students fill in missing letters instead of spelling and writing the entire word. This packet contains all of the daily phonics review practice sheets for all of unit 1 in Reading Street.
