Daily Picture Schedule Pieces and Templates
for Students with Autism and Aspergers
Utilize daily classroom schedules for your students to create an organized flow of activities and transitions while reducing stress and anxiety for your students. Organization of daily activities is a must for all students with autism. Just as you use your calendar and to-do lists, students with autism need a set daily schedule to help them tackle the tasks at school.
Five different schedules are included along with the assorted task pictures. These schedules can be used for multiple ability levels in different classroom settings including general education, inclusion, and severe/moderate classrooms. Each of these schedules has been used successfully within my classroom. Providing your student with autism with the schedule that would work best for them will increase their independence and classroom performance. I have also included the master Excel schedule charts that I use to organize all of the students' schedules (whole day, 1-hour delay, and 2 hour delay) and the instructional assistants schedule grid. I could not run my classroom without these charts! I've included editable Microsoft excel sheets so you can alter the pages to fit your school schedule.

Vertical schedule/horizontal schedule directions: The schedule strips are copied, cut out, and laminated. Then place your desired number of strips (I use 5 strips for a full day). See attached picture. Use clear tape to secure the schedule to the wall or cubby door. Then apply Velcro to the center of each square. I use hard Velcro on the wall and soft on the pictures. We say, “Soft travels,” meaning the part of the schedule that the student pulls off will have soft Velcro applied. Print and copy the necessary pictures for the daily activities, laminate, and apply soft Velcro. Arrange schedule as necessary.
Check off schedule directions: Print the schedule and laminate. Apply hard Velcro to the center of each square. Print and copy the necessary pictures for the daily activities, laminate, and apply soft Velcro. Arrange schedule as necessary. Provide the child with a wet erase marker and have them check off or “X” each activity, or give them a water-based stamp. Alternative option: If your schedule does not change or if you have a student who likes to pull of the pictures they don’t want to do, simply print the schedule and the pictures. Then glue the pictures into the squares on the schedule page. Laminate or place in a plastic sleeve. Provide the child with a wet erase marker and have them check off or “X” each activity, or give them a water-based stamp.
Pull flap schedule directions: Print the schedule and laminate. Cut one side of the schedule to create flaps. Apply hard Velcro to the center of each square. Apply Velcro to the outer side of the door and stationary side to ensure that the flap closes. (See picture.) Use clear tape to attach the stationary side of the schedule either horizontally or vertically. If you install it vertically, place the opening flap on the left so it opens like a book. Install Velcro on the wall and the flap to secure it when open. If you install it horizontally, place the opening flap at the bottom. Print and copy the necessary pictures for the daily activities, laminate, and apply soft Velcro. Arrange schedule as necessary. You can either close all the doors and have the student open each one as the day progresses or leave all of the flaps open and have the student close each flap at each activity.
Portable Velcro schedule directions: Print the schedule and laminate. Apply hard Velcro to the center of each rectangle. Use a 3 hole punch and place inside binder. Print and copy the necessary pictures for the daily activities, laminate, and apply soft Velcro. Add a pencil pouch to the front of the binder for the student to place the pictures when they are removed. Arrange schedule as necessary.
