Product Description
Every day is a holiday. What I did for you is I went through each day of the calendar year except for July, chose one of the holidays (such as World Against Cyber Censorship Day or National Dress Up Your Pet Day) and then wrote at least three thought-provoking questions for each. Each slide – and there are more than 330 of them – has the name of the holiday for that day followed by the questions, which means that for every day of the school year, you can print out or project the questions onto a board. I wrote these with my middle school students in mind, but they could just as easily be used with older elementary students or high school students.

From there, you can do many different activities. I’ve used some of these holidays as discussion topics for my homeroom just to have a fun, ten-minute conversation. They could be very easily used as writing prompts, which could then be used as in-class work, such as journals, or homework. No matter how they are used, the prompts give your students an opportunity to develop their reasoning skills as they explain why they answered how they did, plus for you as their teacher you will get to know more about them. These slides are a great way to connect to your students and to have them feel a sense of connection with you.

Teaching as long as I have, I know that there are times when you need something worthwhile to do with your students in a pinch. If there’s a weather delay or assembly that affects your schedule, if you have a few minutes left in the period after everyone has completed a test, if you get called out of your classroom for an unexpected meeting, these slides fit the bill. In addition, I made slides for every day of every month (again, with the exception of July), so you can use these year after year and you’ll have slides for every single day of the month, and if you need extra slides in a given year, you can just use the ones from the weekend of that year.

I used these holidays with my students this year and I hope that you have as much fun with your students using them as I have.
