These 36 primary-ruled “fix the sentence” correction sheets (180 total sentences!) are designed to improve writing practice of the basics: spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation (as well as some handwriting practice!) They are designed in a way that paces perfectly to the scope and sequence of the McGraw-Hill Wonders reading curriculum for 1st grade, so will work well in both 1st and 2nd grades.
Simply print a worksheet (to save paper, you can print double-sided -- each worksheet is 2 pages, or a front and back of a single sheet)
There are 36 total worksheets, each containing 5 sentences to correct, for a total of 180 sentences! You can either hand out the worksheet at the beginning of each week and correct one sentence per day, or use the worksheet as a weekly activity in which students correct all 5 in a row.
There are several problems with each sentence, so you will need to read the correct version of the sentence aloud so that students will know how to fix the errors. I like to make it into a game in which all students who get a perfect sentence are rewarded with a stamp, a sticker, or a jellybean! (This year I will be doing a stamp for each perfect sentence, and 3 or more perfect sentences at the end of the week will get a jellybean or sticker.)
