This is a great summative assessment project at the end of a unit on weather. Students take on the role of a meteorologist and record several atmospheric conditions everyday for a month using either weatherchannel.com or weatherbug.com. At the end of the month students then organize all of their data into tables and several different graphs to see any patterns or relationships between the different atmospheric conditions. They then write a summary about their findings over time. This is a great on-going project that keeps students excited about the weather as we would spend the first five minutes of each class recording our data and it became the warm-up each day during the unit. It also provides a nice opportunity for students to incorporate their math skills into the science classroom as well. This project could also be easily scaled up or down depending on the ability level of the students.
