This is a set of 24common words that are read and written in 2nd grade. The word is given and a sentence using the word. I introduce a word daily and the students write it into a half-size composition book or a spiral bound notebook could also be used. A relevant sentence is provided for each word and I instruct students to generate and write a sentence of their own. Differentiation takes place during this step and will change throughout the year. I encourage students to draw a picture when possible so they can easily locate words when they go back through this notebook while writing other pieces.
