One of the best ways to get our students going in the morning is to have a task for them as they walk through the door; it helps if it's something they can do independently with success and makes them think at the same time. These Quick Writes will do just that and more!
They consist of a half-page writing prompt that students will enjoy writing about... usually they love to write about themselves and these prompts feature themselves and their opinions as the focus. So they'll be experts at the answers and be successful with no right or wrong answer. There are 20 journal prompts included.
However, the purpose of these is also quality and therefore there is a writing checklist included on each which reminds them of what to focus on while writing. So these could be used as an informal assessment if you wish, especially after they have done them for a while and know what's being asked of them.
For your early finishers, there is an illustration that can be colored along with the check marks on the check list. The pages can be put together into a monthly booklet if you wish; I have included a cover that can be stapled to the front to make a journal.
These would also be an ideal thing to have in a writing center or to use as an opener for your daily writing time!
