A collection of 180+ images and word prompts for use in demand writing episodes for every school day of the year. I display one of these a day in no particular order (unless it fits with a current unit theme topical event) and students write to them for a set time (usually 5 minutes) after which I correct any misspelled words. Corrected words are then added to their personal spelling lists. I encourage students to use the words that think are most suited to their ideas rather than those they can spell. This has improved their reading, writing and spelling vocabularies. It has also virtually eliminated the 'I can't think of anything to write' syndrome in my class as it encourages students to think of an idea quickly. At the end of the week, students get to chose one of their prompt responses to develop further into a published piece of writing. Could also be used as part of a literacy centre rotation.
