Description

Do your students get tired after writing for only one minute? Just like in reading, students need to build their writing stamina. Power writing allows for students to get their thoughts on paper quickly. Students often tend to stall and overthink prior to writing when they haven’t had enough practice. With this daily practice, they have the opportunity to make writing a habit and become fluent, better writers.

There is now a second edition! You can find it here:
Power Writing Second Edition
You can also bundle and save!
Power Writing THE BUNDLE

Power writing happens each day for a period of 1-3 minutes (some people do up to 5). It is a quick time dedicated to writing as much as they can and as well as they can without getting tired or giving up (stamina).

Once their writing is done, students can count their words and graph them. They can keep track of the number of words they write, and be able to see their growth over time.

This resource includes 104 topics for students to write about.
I included a color version and a black and white printer friendly version.
There are two topics per page. Simply print, cut in half and arrange in your order of preference. Once it is organized, put the cover on the front and a graph on the back and staple.

This resource can be used in a variety of ways:
As an activator for writing time
At the beginning of guided reading
After lunch for a quick warm up
Independent Practice (students can time themselves or each other)
