This reading log is for daily use. It is suitable for younger students in grades PK-2. Parents/guardians write in the title of the book his/her child read for homework. Then, he/she grades the book based on his/her observations of the child's reading at home such as "E" for easy, "JR" for just right or "C" for challenging. It also allows the student to express his/her opinion about the book by drawing a face to reflect how they felt about the book. It's a great communication tool between home and school. The teacher can easily glance at the reading log and make informal observations and decisions about the books his/her students are reading as homework. Such observations can be about the type or genre of books students enjoy and whether or not the books are appropriate levels of reading whether they be independent or frustrational at home to read.
