Don't really know how to dance, yet need to deliver a dance unit for your students? Let me do the teaching until you get comfortable with it (and good at it) over time!
This video provides instruction in Beginner's Merengue using a sequence of practical, yet easy moves, in a step-by-step manner that will serve as the basis for a recreational activity that students will use in a variety of social situations for the rest of their lives.
The moves covered are:
- Side Basic
- Apart Together
- Spot Turns
- Inside & Outside Turns
- Bridge Turn
- Closed Spin
As the teacher, all you need to do is project the video on the wall and start from there, one move at a time (although I am not 100% certain of the quality of that approach due to it being a file and not a dvd; a smaller screen such as a tv may work better, or else you could learn it ahead of time on your own and then teach it; many approaches work).
Also, I highly recommend that you download the free "Dynamic Dance" file in my product list in order to establish properly your Dance program and ensure its success (the Etiquette Method is KEY). Another essential free supporting file in my product list is “Songs For Dance”.
By establishing a program that consists of a minimum of Swing, Merengue, Waltz, Line Dancing, and Novelty Dances, you will not only have covered the basics of Social Dance, but also have provided enough variety of styles, tempos, and social interaction (couple, individual, group) to please everyone and make them comfortable.
Dancing promotes an active lifestyle, respect and etiquette among persons, inspires self-confidence and develops rhythm, all in an enjoyable, relaxed context, and has been the one thing for which students have consistently come back to thank me over the years as they moved into adulthood. I sincerely hope you give it a shot, even if only for your own personal interest and challenge.
Best foot forward!
