Teaching ballet to very young dancers can be very stressful. When I first began teaching ballet after years of training and dancing professionally, I had NO idea what to do with students ages 3-6. It’s much easier to teach the older dancers with longer attention spans and better brain to body connections.
So, after teaching ballet for 25 years, I realized that there is a need for a pre-ballet quick reference. I learned the value of a syllabus while earning a Master’s Degree in Education. This syllabus is intended for use in teaching pre-ballet for the first time, or simply to provide some fresh ideas. Although there are some books available for teaching pre-ballet students, it can be overwhelming and impractical to pick through a whole book to get ideas for each class. Additionally, searching the web for information takes a lot of time.
With this in mind, I have developed this concise, easy to follow, complete syllabus for pre-ballet teachers to follow during class time or use for quick planning. I include class rules, class structure, teaching tips, and an easy to follow syllabus for an entire year of classes. You literally can be ready to teach your first class in about 10 minutes!
*****This syllabus is intended for use by people with basic ballet knowledge. (i.e. I do not explain what 1st and 2nd position means, etc.).
