This is a summary of the plot of Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel, the play set in Ireland during the 1930's.
There are four pages of "Fill in the blanks" for students to complete. This covers the background and both acts of the play. At the end of each section, a wordbank is provided to assist students with the cloze.
This is an active learning activity. It could be used as revision when study of the play is complete. It could be used as you work through the play to create summary notes. This is a useful approach for weaker students or EAL students who need support and cannot write their own summaries. You could use it for assessment or as homework, or as a filler when you have nothing else prepared. Students often see this type of task as easy or fun, but they are still actively learning when doing it.
I've included the solution which is three pages long.
