The intent of this puzzle book’s “companion volume”, A Substantial Prime Number of Neat Numbers, was to help with awareness of math facts and properties that would benefit ALL pre-college test takers . . . grade level requisite exams, graduation exams, SATs, ACTs, quiz bowls, math counts. Dang, You’re Fast at Math! works with various math short cuts and “tricks.” Though it can benefit all math students it does reach beyond classroom topics and aims at those teachers and students who desire, or need, to improve upon mental math skills. The math techniques in the puzzles concentrate on topics that, perhaps, were mentioned in the classroom, but not dwelt upon long enough for most students to attain mastery. This collection of fifteen activities is composed of puzzles written for Special Days and Special Topics. As always in my puzzles I integrate and blend as many ideas and topics as possible; so along with improving mental math abilities the students will learn more about such diverse topics as boa constrictors, NCAA March Madness, and Girl Scouts of America.
This collection only works with ARITHMETIC short cuts, no algebra is necessary, therefore the set of puzzles will be beneficial to students and teachers from late primary education through Calculus.
Each puzzle DOES have an explanation of the mental math procedure used in that particular puzzle, so the student will have an example/reference if needed when on their own. BUT a brief in-class presentation would go a long way in sealing the short-cut deal. Even a non-math substitute should be able to decipher any of the seven, or so, short cut methods employed in these puzzles.
Both companion volumes can be bought at a discount from the two individual volumes added together. Please type in "Neat Numbers, Dang" in the Search Rectangle if you are interested. THANK YOU!!
