This is a student companion guide for the novel Daniel’s Duck, by Clyde Robert Bulla, from the I Can Read collection.
E-Top reading guides are designed to help ESL and EFL students read and understand works of fiction for young learners written in English.
E-Top reading guides in a nutshell:
-Are printable and are meant to be handed out to students as a companion to the novel.
-Feature crystal-clear vocabulary tables that easily define troublesome words and expressions from the text and include visuals.
-Link vocabulary tables with ready-made Quizlet study sets online.
-Include reading comprehension questions that are organized by chapter and cover the story from beginning to end.
-Demonstrate how to answer questions in full sentences via a full answer key, which is provided as a separate file.
-Include writing topics that get students to think about the story more deeply or relate it to their own experiences. A topic is provided for every group of chapters marked as a “week” of reading, and relates to the events or character changes in the story in those chapters. Space is provided for students to write a draft and a final copy.
-(Some guides) include an additional non-fiction activity page on a topic related to the story.
-Enable the teacher to customize the cover page by typing the teacher’s name and the name of the school.
I personally use these guides as homework assignments, and they have served me well in that role, but I’m confident that they can be used as a classroom activity, for reading clubs, homeschooling, or private tutoring.
