Take a little dance with death and experience the music of Camille Saint-Saens through this guided listening activity. Geared towards upper elementary, students are exposed to:
- Background info of Saint-Saens life
- The making of Danse Macabre
- The role of the Dance of Death in French superstition
Challenge your students to listen for the main violin theme in the song and reward their efforts with an animated listening map, complete with dancing skeletons. Includes links to Danse Macabre animated movie (short) on YouTube, and MP3's of the music (distributed under a Creative Commons license).
*****Please note: When listening for the first time, students are prompted to listen for multiple things in the music. During the guided listening portion of the lesson, however, the worksheet and animated listening map focus on the main violin theme only.
