This powerpoint was created while I studied Dante and his La Divina Commedia in Italy in 2012 as a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar.
The powerpoint includes introductory material, and also includes a section of slides for each canto of the work. Each section contains important quotes, interesting facts about characters, places, and events, and pictures. The introductory material includes biographical information on Dante, political explanations of the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, explanation of the rhyme scheme of Terza Rima, discussion of the concept of contrapasso, and much more.
The presentation is 158 slides in length and meant to be used on a daily basis as students read through Inferno (quotes are from the Durling/Martinez translation, but information can be used for any translation)
It is requested that teachers do not share this powerpoint with others (the password for editing is "siena," and it is expressly forbidden that this powerpoint be uploaded to the internet or to any media. I really appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the integrity of this work.
The powerpoint is set up so that in presentation mode, pictures insert over text. This means that in editing mode, it may look as if pictures are blocking text. Be sure to view for the first in picture mode to see this aspect.
