Description

Writing chapter summaries, writing a haiku poem, doing hashtag writing tasks, writing short responses to questions on task cards about every chapter and completing exit tickets are the 5 writing activities in this product. They are great supplemental activities and information about when to implement them as your students read the novel is provided in the explanatory information page for teachers.

✓ Please note:

This resource is included in the complete Dar and the Spear-Thrower Novel Study product.

A model and a template are provided for the chapter summary task. Information about how to write a haiku poem is provided, along with an organizer for students to write their own haiku and a page with a "cave wall" background for writing their final copy. There are 3 hashtag writing tasks based on events that occur at various points in the novel. Two sets of task cards offer questions that are related to what happens in each chapter. These questions can be used for pair and small group discussions as well as for writing practice. There are 22 questions in each set, corresponding to the chapters in the novel. In addition, there are 2 blank task cards in each set so you can write your own questions if you wish. There are 11 different exit ticket topics. Each page is divided into quarters and the same topic is presented 4 times. There is space for students to write short responses on the exit tickets. A page correlating the exit ticket questions with the chapter is included for reference. Rubrics are provided for all but the exit ticket task.
