Get 4 exercise in one download. These exercise are companions to the Journeys selection "Darnell Rock Reporting" (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2012, fifth grade). First students are asked to complete a graphic organizer about the two points of view presented. Then students write a persuasive paragraph on a subject they personally care about. Both activities are differentiated in two versions (less or more support) to meet the needs of your students. My students score higher on comprehension assessments when they use graphic organizers while reading. The graphic organizer can be used individually, in small groups, or during large group discussion. The format of the exercises is similar to those found on the Smarter Balance ELA practice test. The organizer is also available as a Smartboard notebook file.
