A fantastic and very comprehensive resource including a Traffic Nightmare project book, lesson plan, student objective sheets, PowerPoint extended data collection exercise, PowerPoint Tally Chart Bingo, student bingo sheet and a PowerPoint introduction to using tally charts.
This project focuses on a scenario where the opening of a local supermarket has resulted in a great increase in heavy traffic through a residential area. The students tally the vehicles they see on screen to 'prove' the increase in vehicle congestion and to use this data to create a bar chart. There is an emphasis on analysing the data to investigate the claims made by neighbors and an extension activity carries the project on with students writing a report to the local mayor about their findings. Coupled with the Tally Chart Bingo and the introductory PowerPoint on tally charts this is a resource that can be used again and again. I have used it in class for over 8 years now, and the students - even reluctant learners - comment on how much they enjoyed the session and how their skills have improved.
