Data/Leadership Notebooks are a great tool to use for school-home communication. It helps students to be accountable for their learning. Students are able to follow their improvement in academic, personal, and social goals by using visual aids. It empowers students by teaching responsibility for their learning, and organization skills.
Parents are able to keep up with their child's progress socially, academically and behaviorally. It also provides data that is readily available for parent conferences, RTI, IEP's, etc. Data notebooks deliver timely feedback so that as teachers we may effectively analyze what our students need.
This data notebook is designed with the primary child in mind, especially children in Kindergarten and early First Grade. There are a few graphs included, but it mostly consists of color pages, which they will complete as they learn the necessary content. This allows the data notebook to be more age appropriate, especially for students who are just beginning to track their learning. It is also less time consuming, because we know that every second of the instructional day is precious!
