Product Description
Purpose: The overarching goal of this lesson is to teach students about data analysis and statistics. This fits into the ‘bigger picture’ because it will help all students to interpret data and be able to graph or display data in different ways. Students need to know about this because it will allow them to read and graph data and statistics.

Objectives: As a result of this lesson:
• Students will be able to describe and compare data sets using the concepts of median, mean, mode, maximum and minimum, and range.
• Students will be able to construct and interpret stem-and-leaf plots, line plots, and circle graphs.
• Students will be able to record data and create various types of graphs on Excel based on their results (line graphs, circle graphs, bar graphs)

Standards: Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks:
6.D.1: Describe and compare data sets using the concepts of median, mean, mode, maximum and minimum, and range.
6.D.2: Construct and interpret stem-and-leaf plots, line plots, and circle graphs.
