Students often struggle with analyzing writer’s style. They usually can identify elements of style like tone, diction, detail, but where they have trouble is thinking about the effects of those stylistic choices. I’ve included a graphic organizer for students to describe and analyze the effects of the changes they’ve made.
When students write, they’re thinking like writers. The more we allow students to write and think about the stylistic choices they make, the better able they’ll be at analyzing author’s style.
By the way, in the narrative I've created, the police become involved when someone is caught speeding--nothing more than that :-)
