These cards are used to have a 'tea party' before reading the text, "Davy Crockett Saves the World" by Rosalyn Schanzer. Simply copy them on to card stock and cut apart. Select the correct number so that each student in your class has one to read. I like to use them to partner up my students so there are two copies of each card. Each student reads his card to himself. Suggest that he ask a seat partner for help with any unknown words. On your cue, students stand up, walk over to another child and have a 'tea party' by taking turns reading their card to each other. When they have finished they simply walk away to find someone else to read their card to. It is a fun way to hear little snippits of the story before reading the entire text. They get excited later when they find their sentence in the text. I have students continue sharing their card until they find the person who has the same card as they do. Then they sit together and are partners for the next activity. Enjoy!
