What do you do with all the school supplies the students bring on day 1? Well, turn it into a cooperative math activity. Begin by telling the students that some of the supplies they brought will be shared and some will not be shared. As a group. sort the picture cards into two categories, share and not share. After deciding what will be shared and not shared in their classroom, actually sort the supplies. While you're doing that you can talk about more and less. Do we have more Kleenex or pencils? More glue sticks or bottles of glue? This activity does take time but it is a first step in building community and setting the groundwork on how the class will look, sound and feel.
You'll get cards for:
dry erase markers
6 blank cards
cards for share and not share
**set revised on August 9, 2016. Previously I hadn't found a royalty free graphic for a crayon box or spiral notebook, so the words were only included with NO graphic. I just found these graphics so I've added those two cards - check the preview.
