Looking for a fun and unique assessment for the Day the Dead? Simply print out this template to have your students make a Day of the Dead card for the other subject area teachers in your school. The card contains a skeleton image and a poem explaining to the teachers what the card is. This is on the right hand side of the document so that when you print it, the students can fold it. On the inside, they tell about what the Day of the Dead is, and they can decorate it as well and even add a piece of candy.
I do this activity as an informal assessment with Spanish I after we have learned about the Day of the Dead together in class. This is a fun way for students to organize their thoughts cohesively and summarize what they have learned. Students can pass completed cards out to teachers, or sometimes I put them randomly in our teachers’ mailboxes. This activity would obviously be completed in English so that the teachers could understand it. However, for advanced Spanish classes, students could turn in a copy of their summary to you in Spanish. Enjoy!
