Product Description
This Day of the Dead Unit includes 14 PRINTABLES and ANSWER KEYS.

1. Reading: A two page reading on the celebration of the Day of the Dead.

2. Vocabulary Exercises (3 pages): Matching/ Fill In the Blanks/ and Correct the Sentences. These vocabulary exercises include words like skull, skeleton, to mourn, to rejoice, to pass away, relative, marigolds etc.

3. The Day of the Dead “Fact or Opinion”: Students will read the 12 statements about the Day of the Dead. They will write F if the statement is a fact. They will write O if the statement is an opinion.

4. Day of the Dead Grammar Review with Idiom
In this worksheet students will discover the hidden idiom by identifying different parts of speech (i.e irregular present tense verbs, comparative adjectives, irregular plural nouns, adverbs, conjunctions, possessive pronouns, and irregular past tense verbs.) After identifying the words according to their parts of speech, the students will then follow the directions and color them accordingly. If students do not have crayons or colored pencils they can simply cross out the words instead. The blocks that remain will reveal the idiom, “Dead to the world.” Next, students write the meaning of the idiom and a sentence using the idiom.

5. Making Information Question: WH-Question Words
Students will make information questions using the WH-Question Words (who, what, what kind of, where, when, why, how etc.) Students will first read the answer to the question. The underlined word in the sentence will indicated which WH-question word the students will need to use to write the correct question.
For example:
1. _________________________________________________
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday.
Students need to write the question “What kind of holiday is the Day of the Dead?

6. Day of the Dead Word Search: Students will alphabetize the vocabulary words and find them in the puzzle.

7. Day of the Dead Grammar Review: Students will write a noun, an adjective and a verb for each letter in the words Day of the Dead.

8. Scrambled Words: Students will unscramble the words from the story.

9. Decorate your classroom for the Day of the Dead with 3 fun worksheets. Students can either color or draw and color a sugar skull. Also, in the final worksheet students will draw an altar that represents the life of a person of their choice. They will need to include their favorite foods, drinks, activities, hobbies, accomplishments etc. They will then label the items.
