This literacy unit includes reading comprehension and writing activities for your students. This book is the perfect read aloud for the day after Halloween as it describes what happens to jack-o-lanterns once Halloween is over. This lesson would be appropriate anytime between Halloween and Thanksgiving. This lesson is also linked to a Smartboard activity on my TPT store if you are interested. This lesson does not include any Halloween activities so it is appropriate for children who do not celebrate Halloween.
The first and second activities are differentiated sequencing activities. Students can numerically order the stages of the life cycle, or you can have them cut them out and paste them in order. There is also available space if you wish to have your children write a brief description of the picture.
The third activity allows your children to illustrate their own life cycle book.
The last activity is a Venn diagram comparing a jack-o-lantern and a snowman. This might be good to use as a revisit in the winter. It also accompanies my Smartboard activity.
