It's that time of year! It's Daylight Saving Time (often spelled 'savings' by mistake) and you need to spring forward. You do gain extra daylight though :-) This is a fun word search to get your kids talking about some of the vocabulary/terms related to the time of year where we set our clocks up an hour. Your students will enjoy this fun "Daylight Saving Time" word search.
On the word search there is a footnote explaining that it is often mispronounced or spelled incorrectly with an 's' on savings. You are 'saving' daylight though. Just a fun fact. PLUS, I mention that Arizona and Hawaii do not participate. They remain on standard time.
You could even have your students write about whether they would like their state to be on standard or daylight saving time. What are the pros/cons, etc. Plus, discuss why the time change is at 2:00 a.m. It's a time when it would least likely impact businesses. Most people are sleeping, etc.
Word searches are a great way to get your kids talking about the vocabulary. I use word searches to initiate discussions, or even just give it as morning work. They are also great to glue in writing notebooks for future writing topics. They are perfect for early finishers. Perfect for a sub, too. How about homework as a fun family activity. Use this Daylight Saving Time themed word search however you would like in your classroom.
In this word search puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonally. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions.
