Dead Poets' Society starring Robin Williams may have taken on a more meaningful or ironic tone because of Williams's own personal demons, but the movie works well with A Separate Peace, and it's probably still used by English teachers in conjunction with poetry units.
If you've never considered using discussion questions in conjunction with watching films, you are missing out on an opportunity. And your principal/school board probably don't know you're doing it.
I have to admit that my wife liked showing movies as rewards for students doing their work, but I encouraged her to at least create questions to go with the movies. This is one of those assignments. I have not seen the film since high school myself, but I can remember the themes seemed surprisingly relevant, considering I was at a large city public school.
If you use this film, have at least one discussion of group work day. My wife had some answers written, but these are discussion / opinion questions, so it's generally better to wing it.
