This Word document is a summary of the plot of the Peter Weir film in "Fill in the Blanks" format. Using the chapters from the DVD, I have divided the film into ten parts, and for each section of the movie there is a separate cloze test procedure.
Students demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze test. Instead of giving students a summary of the plot as notes, I think that students learn better when they actively construct their own. However, for some students this can be a daunting task. I use this technique as a support to students to assist them write their own summary.
This is the type of activity that can be used again for revision. It's a great way to sum up without actually doing all of the work for them. And, they enjoy doing this activity!!
There is a word bank at the end of each section to help students. As this is a Word document, you could remove this to make the activity more challenging.
The solution is also included (5 pages). The solution is a 2300 word summary of the film, which you could use as notes before an exam.
Download the preview file to see the assignment and solution for Part 1, the first nine minutes of the film. Even if you don't purchase this product, it will give you a useful exercise with which to start your study of this excellent film.
