As the title suggests, this report is about the Deaf President Now weeklong protest that occurred on the campus of Gallaudet University in March of 1988. Students, backed by several alumni, staff, and faculty, successfully shut down the entire campus. The national Deaf community united with efforts and fought together for one clear goal, to finally have a deaf person run the world’s only deaf university – Gallaudet.

This report summarizes the history of Gallaudet University, detailed information about DPN, a brief look at Dr. I. King Jordan, examines the origins of Audism and the topic Why is Sign Language important?
