In this document I explain some of the complexities that are occurring within my classrooms in relation to student differences, needs and exceptionalities. It has become apparent, within each coming year, that student exceptionalities and differences need to be monitored, approached and equitably worked with. This has often led to a confusing competition of needs.
While there is no perfect solution to this I attempt to explain here how I am approaching the problem both through the allowing of student differences to be explored and utilized within the class, and through the use of open-ended scripted materials which encourage students to set their own terms of engagement and characterizations in identity expression. I also discuss the problematic nature of theatrical scripted materials used in an attempt to promote equity.
There is a specific solution to the problem of exploring student differences equitably are to be found in the scripts and the forms of drama training I have included on this site. This document is intended to frame and explore that problem.
