We use this book as a part of our Civil War unit. It is also perfect for teaching character perspective and inferring. My students really enjoy reading this book and learning about The Underground Railroad and friendship.
This unit includes a character notebook for notes on the characters. The character notebooks also have a place for a short summary of each section. The second part of this unit is the response journal. This journal contains vocabulary and response questions for each section of the book and a lesson on foreshadowing. It also contains end of the book response questions and a writing prompt. These can all be put into a booklet form, or handed out after each section. The last part of the unit is the Character Trait Maps.
I have also included a book themed STEM challenge with complete directions for the teacher and a planning/recording sheet for the students.
Finally, I have included a page to record examples of the 7 Habits. My school is a Leader in Me school, so we are always focused on the Habits.

I'm just getting started on TPT after 20 years of teaching. Please check back often for more items to be loaded. I have a little bit of everything, but I specialize in book units, economics, and baseball themed items.
Be sure to check out my other items, including the rest of our Civil War unit - another book study of the book Dear Austin and 3 informational passages/questions about slavery, Harriet Tubman, and Henry "Box" Brown.
