Product Description
*this activity includes specific directions but can be used in any literature class with any two authors*

Students will work in pairs to draft a "help me" letter from an author you have been studying in your class to another author the students are familiar with. For example, Edgar Allan Poe might write a letter to Walt Whitman seeking advice about any number of his troubles. Then they must draft a letter offering advice specific to those authors.

Students must rely on their knowledge and research notes in order to draft a letter that encapsulates both authors' voices, topics, styles, themes and purposes.

My students (11th and 10th graders) loved this activity and I was impressed by how much research they included in their letters.
