This resource accompanies the Dear Canada novel - Orphan at my Door: The Home Child Diary of Victoria Cope. Teachers do not need to have a class set of novels as the resource is written to use the novel as a read aloud.
The design is for the teacher to read 10 pages a day and each week's sentence is based on approximately 50 pages of the diary. The schedule for mentor sentence use is included and suggested activities for each day.
Mentor sentence activities take up only about 15 minutes per day and through this activity students can learn grammar and mechanics of writing without even realizing it.
