Keeping a diary is a great way for students to write! It allows them to express their feelings, thoughts, and to record what happened to them on that date.
It is structured writing, but allows for students to write in a more fluid writing style. They can, and are encouraged to write as they think. They are encouraged to include re-tells, lists, first person, starting/ending with pictures. There is also structure to the format, as they need to include the date (top, right corner), introduction (Dear Diary), Ending (Love,), proper sentences / grammar / punctuation / etc.
