Middle School students LOVE taking selfies! Use this activity as a fun ice breaker to begin the school year!
This product is a one page handout to use on the first day of school. I use it with middle school, but it truly could be used in upper elementary as well.
Basically, the students follow a "form" letter and write to themselves. The letter contains their current likes and allows them to set goals for the school year. I like to collect them and return them at the end of the school year.
There are a few ways to use this, first is just simply distribute the worksheet and use it as a class activity (probably about 15 minutes). Second would be to assign the letter as a creative project. Students would have to import a "selfie" of themselves and complete the questions. Lastly, the teacher could upload the document to a "edmodo.com" type of website. Then the students, on their own computer, could complete the activity in class. You would need access to desktop computers and a camera for this.
This is a great way to get your students thinking about the upcoming year and allows you to get to know them.
